    11058: Wood for wildlife – conserving our bushland reserves

    Wood for wildlife aims to reduce the incidents of illegal firewood/habitat log collection and prevent unauthorised vehicle access in locally important reserves.

    Gates will be installed to protect reserves by restricting access. Signs will be erected identifying reserve ownership and encouraging community support by providing information on the reserves biodiversity values.

    Major project achievements

    • Construction and installation of 16 heavy duty; low maintenance galvanised gates to prevent unauthorised access to bushland reserves.
    • Installation of 30 information signs to educate and discourage the unauthorised gathering of fire wood from reserves.
    • Increased level of ownership and acknowledgement of the value of local remnant bushland.
    • Opportunity for the Shire to work with a local conservation group.
