12112: Restoration of Ferguson River vegetation in the locality of Wellington Mills

Wellington Mills is the original site of the Wellington Mill township established around a highly productive logging and sawmill enterprise in the late 1900s.

The site was declared as a Community Park by the Minister for Environment in March 2008.

This project is located in one of the park's former pine plantations along the Ferguson River.

Over a 2ha site this project will control weeds and revegetate with the aim of:

    • increasing river bank vegetation and buffer zones
    • increasing natural re-generation of native flora and fauna
    • improving water quality
    • reducing sedimentation.

Rehabilitation works will be complimented by nature trails and flora and fauna interpretive signage informing visitors of the values of the area.
