13022: Dawson Park Primary School Threatened Ecological Community conservation
Dawson Park Primary School is fortunate to have a small (0.4ha) patch of natural banksia woodland on its grounds. The woodland is in very good to excellent condition, contains Threatened Ecological Communities, and adjoins a 5.4 hectare Bush Forever Site.
This project aims to conserve areas of the woodland that are in excellent condition and rehabilitate degraded areas.
- identifying degraded areas, and the level and extent of degradation
- fencing the bushland and installing access gates for students and the public
- laying crushed limestone over existing sand paths
- weeding and revegetating degraded areas with local native species.
Students, parents and community volunteers will help with weeding and planting activities.
Students will monitor the site as part of the science curriculum.
