13029: Friends of Piesse Brook Gorge area weed control

Piesse Brook flows through State forest, private property and Kalamunda National Park before joining the Helena River.

It's home to Long-necked turtles and many species of frogs and forms part of a regionally significant ecological linkage.

Friends of Piesse Brook have been working their way along the Brook and its tributaries, eradicating weeds (mainly Watsonia and Blackberry) and restoring it to its natural state. The final section of Brook to be restored is in steep-rugged terrain 1km upstream of the Helena River.

This project will employ a contractor with specialist equipment to access this section of the Brook to remove the bulk Watsonia and Blackberry. Friends of members will follow-up with spot sprays and revegetation works.

    Investment: $ 17 000
Delivery organisation: Friends of Piesse Brook
    Project duration: August 2014 - November 2014
    Location: Piesse Brook, Kalamunda
