13103: Extending on landcare activities in the Kojonup Shire

The Kojonup Shire has been without a Landcare Officer for the past 5 years.

Before this participation rates in landcare activities were high.

Southern DiRT is a newly established grower group that encourages landholders to manage their properties in a sustainable manner. They will manage this project and monitor and evaluate its activities.

This project involves three farmers who wish to build on past landcare activities on their properties. They aim to protect and improve remnant vegetation and increase habitat for the Red tailed phascagale and Carnaby's cockatoo.

    Activities include:

    • installation of 9.6km fencing to protect 50ha of remnant vegetation
    • planting of 4800 seedlings to infill and improve condition of 6ha of native vegetation.
    Investment: $ 24 000
    Delivery organisation: Southern DIRT
    Project duration: November 2014 - November 2015
Location: three properties in the Shire of Kojonup
