    14107: Environmental recovery for the Pakerville/Stoneville/Mt. Helena Fires 2014

    In January 2014, the Shire of Mundaring experienced the Parkerville, Stoneville and Mount Helena bush fire. The fire was extremely hot and caused significant environmental damage. An Environmental Recovery Sub-committee was formed to identify the environmental issues associated with the fire and plan recovery projects.

    Fires create a window of opportunity for competitive weed species to take advantage of the bare ground. This project will deliver actions recommended by the environmental recovery plan including weed control allow natural species regeneration, revegetation to help reduce weed risk and encourage wildlife to return to the area, erosion control works to prevent sedimentation of waterways and installation of nesting boxes to help reinstate lost habitat to assist wildlife returning to the area.

    Purpose of project

    The project will rectify the damage caused by the 2014 fires. A management plan, capacity building and on-ground works will pave the way for succussful revegetation and the return of wildlife.
