15037: Western Ringtail Possums in Albany: Core Habitat, Abundance, and Distribution

    This project aims to undertake surveys of Western Ringtail Possums within strategic reserves in the City of Albany, and surrounding area, to determine distribution, abundance, and to identify core habitat, satellite populations, and distribution patterns. This information will be used to direct future conservation actions for Western Ringtail Possums.

    Project Activities:

    • GPS tracking of ten adult possums to determine habitat use by tracking movements within, between, and adjacent to reserves
    • Abundance surveys (spotlighting transects, using distance surveys), conducted on a seasonal basis
    • Camera trapping (baited and unbaited)
    • Community sightings collection
    • Where possible, animals will be recorded as 'adult' or 'sub-adult', and data on habitat at time of sighting collected
