15175: Canning River Foreshore Restoration

This project will improve the foreshore condition of the Canning River at two Priority 1 sites as listed in the Swan Canning Rivers Foreshore Management Strategy.  We will follow Management Strategy recommendations to address the major threats including managing invasive weeds and focussing revegetation on re-establishing native understorey species to progressively expand native vegetation and linkages between sites.

At each site chemical weed control will occur across the whole site four times over this project in January, June, September and December to allow for the continued establishment of revegetation installed since 2011 and establishment of revegetation to be installed in winter 2016. It will take 2 people four days to spray the site for each treatment.  In addition to chemical weed control handweeding will occur using the SERCUL work for the dole team and SERCUL volunteers. This handweeding will allow for the removal of weeds that can't be sprayed due to their close proximity to native vegetation. It is anticipated that 8 people will spend four days handweeding the site in January, June, September and December.  Infill planting will also occur in designated areas were revegetation has already and has not taken place.
