15211: Donnelly Vertebrate Pest Management Group 2016/17 Operation

The Donnelly district is home to both high value native vegetation and unique fauna, pristine waterways and highly productive agriculture land. Feral pigs are indiscriminate in the damage they cause and by assisting private landholders control pig populations impacting on agricultural land (or private native vegetation), threat pressure on adjacent public estate native vegetation habitat is reduced.

This project plans to identify the most effective trapping time based on review of data from previous feral pig activity.  Surveillance will be undertaken in order to confirm areas to target, and trapping, tracking and despatch of feral pigs posing a threat to threatened and vulnerable biodiversity and agriculture on private property and DPaW estate interface, will occur over approximately 7000 ha in the Donnelly area. Comprehensive log book entries of each dispatch will also be recorded.
